Beneath the wrappers, we find the book bound in its publisher's original red boards, [not shown], blind-stamped colophon to front, titling to back-strip protecting the spine in original gilt.
First edition published by William Hodge & Co., London, in 1953. Edited by Lord Dunboyne. No ownership inscriptions or permanent markings to the text. Although interior condition is overall very good, book may display trivial cosmetic signs of use or age consistent with a printed object of this vintage. All 271 pp are complete and correct.
Few trials aroused such public interest as that of John George Haigh at Lewis Assizes before Mr. Justice Humphreys in 1949. Despite a number of alleged murders, Haigh was only charged with one -- that of Mrs. Durrand-Deacon whose body he tried to destroy in a vat of acid. In an attempt to convince the jury of his insanity Haigh revealed that he had committed eight other murders and had performed the ritual of drinking blood …
