China has 56 recognized ethnic groups. The Han ethnic group represents about 92% of the entire population of China and the remaining 55 groups comprise the balance. The Miao group is only one group, located in South West China. They live mostly in the mountain area and traditional cultural crafts and language are slowly disappearing. A purchase of this hand crafted art not only provides income for Miao women, it supports a traditional hand craft that is disappearing.
