AESTHETIC BROWN TRANSFERWARE SOUP PLATE

PHILEAU PATTERN

G. W. Turner and Sons Potteries
Tunstall, Staffordshire England
c. 1883

This Victorian aesthetic 9 3/8 " soup plate is transfer printed in delicious dark brown.

The crisp PHILEAU pattern features delightful Japanesque and geometric designs of the aesthetic movement. Cartouches of many birds and landscapes, cattails, flowering tree branches and a mountainous lake and stone bridge in the full moon light. The pattern captures the victorian eras love of nature.

The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name and trademark that identifies the maker as Turner, a pottery maker working in Tunstall in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century.

The piece is in EXCELLENT condition, clean and bright. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. Normal rim stilt marks.
