Report itemIt was my first trip to London, and my first time to Harrods Department Store. And there it was-this fabulous leather mini skirt with zippers in the hem and on the pockets...I had to have it! Loved it so much I also bought it in black (also up for auction). It was designed by Betty Jackson, an innovative British fashion designer whose achievement in British fashion was honored with a CBE. She studied fashion in Birmingham under Zandra Rhodes. In 1973 she became Wendy Dagworthy's assistant. She moved on to other positions at Quorum and Coopers, before setting up her own design firm. She has that decidedly British twist to her designs, and and continues to produce stunning pieces for major fashion houses in the UK such as Mark and Spencer and Debenhams. She is also know for designing the outrageous costumes on the 1990s hit series "Absolutely Fabulous". Oddly enough when I was dipping into the archives to find these skirts, I also came up with a wonderful tweed suit (also up for auction) by Wendy Dagworthy. Same day. Bought them at separate times in different countries! It was only when I googled both designers did I discover that they had indeed worked together!!! Also turns out that I have a pattern (also up for auction-I know it seems like I am selling everything, but I have a lot of stuff...) by Betty Jackson. What a small and quirky world it is... OK, back to the red leather skirt: It has a 25" waist, and is 21" long. It has zippers on both the pockets and on the slit in the front and the back. It has a snap closure and zipper in the back. It has a wonderful label that reads: " Made in the United Kingdom/Betty Jackson/ Coopers. And it has a map of Britain behind the type. It is marked an English size 10, more like our size 6. But always safer to go by the measurements. In very excellent vintage condition. Everyone should own a red leather skirt at some point in their life. And this is the ultimate one...!
