Offering a signed STEUBEN glass engraved celeste peacocock turquoise blue plate in excellent condition! History of Steuben glass:
Steuben Glass Works is an American art glass manufacturer, and was founded in the summer of 1903 by Fredrick C. Carder and Thomas G. Hawkes in Corning, New York. Hawkes was the owner of the largest cut glass firm then operating in Corning.
From Marshall (THANK YOU!) : "This is Steuben shape 2028 in Celeste Blue and was engraved by Steuben. It is probably Steuben pattern 10009."
Frederick C. Carder was an Englishman who had many years experience designing glass for Stevens and Williams in England. Hawkes purchased the glass blanks for his cutting shop from many sources and eventually wanted to start a factory to make the blanks himself. Hawkes convinced Carder to come to Corning and manage such a factory. Carder, who had been passed over for promotion at Stevens and Williams, consented to do so.
Steuben Art glass includes frosted lines like Verre de Soie, Jade, Intarsia Cintra, Cluthra iridescent Aurene and many other styles.
American Art Glass developed in the mid 19th century, and produced by companies like Pairpoint and Steuben, the New England companies like Sandwich, Smith Brothers, the Mt. Washington Pairpoint Glass Company, the C.F. Monroe Co. making luxury glass for display, such as this magnificent plate.
This plate, measuring 8" 5/8" is engraved in vine and floral pattern with ovals, has very minor surface fine line wear and a manufacturing dimple as shown, with the block letters STEUBEN and is in excellent condition with NO DAMAGE THAT I CAN SEE OR FEEL!
