A well-received EP, a song selected for a widely played Mercedes commercial, and an association with Madonna helped build an enormous buzz around adult alternative artist Mozella well before her full-length debut hit the streets in 2006. Fortunately, Mozella met the expectations created by the buzz by delivering an album that blends singer-songwriter intimacy with jazzy textures and hip-hop-tinged, urban contemporary production. Mozella's music recalls Nelly Furtado, Macy Gray, and Alanis Morrisette, yet it still manages to come across as fresh and satisfying, in part because of Mozella's unique voice and her willingness to put a little edge on what would otherwise be straightforward, radio-ready pop-rock. It's this blend of commercial pop with personal bite that makes I WILL a winner, and hints that Mozella has a successful road before her.
