RAILROAD TRAIN SOUND "D&RGW NARROW GAUGE COMMON CARRIER

CLASSIC D&RGW NARROW GAUGE COMMON CARRIER

This particular CD “D&RGW NARROW GAUGE COMMON CARRIER” consists of Steam sound recorded by a number of individuals during numerous visits to Coloado and New Mexico during the mid 1950s and early 1960s when the D&RGW narrow gauge was still a common carrier. This material has been collected by us over the years and has been restored for this program. The locos may be small but they make up for their diminutive size with big sound.  

Track 1: Mikes 473 and 478, both K-28s double head on a freight leaving Chama, NM

Track 2: The above freight climbing the grade at Coxo.

Track 3: High in the mountains below Cumbres Pass we hear a long freight coming upgrade with 499 a K-37 leading and 482 a K-36 shoving about mid train.

Track 4: A long freight with no less than 3 K-36s headed upgrade cresting Cumbres. The lineup is as follows:  487 in the lead, 488 about 10 cars deep and after 40 more cars, 483 bringing up the rear.

 
Track 5: We follow a 12 car work train with K36 484 struggling in the rain

Track 6:  A very rare, and lengthy, sequence. The train is a long freight with 497. a K-37, on the head end and 486 a K-36 shoving at the rear just ahead of the caboose. The recording was made from the caboose and is a full 30 minutes from the start at Chama to the stop at Cumbres.
