This is a .9" twist marble by Seth Parks. Signed and dated SP 09. I sign and date using a titanium pen which leaves a deposit of titanium on the glass instead of scratching it, it's only obvious in the right light at the right angle.

Size: .9"  -  24mm

Artist Biography

My name is Seth Parks. I was born in 1984, in Waterville, Maine. As a child I was very artistic, constantly drawing, designing things, and sculpting clay. I had a fascination with glass and how pieces were made but never understood how to do it or where to begin.

After graduating high school in 2003, I found a local glassblower working in hot glass who gave lessons to beginners. After my first lesson, I was hooked. I immediately developed a great passion for glassblowing. There is just something about the way that glass moves when it is molten; the way you must move with the glass rather than move it really intrigues me. Wanting to learn more, I went on to study at some of the world’s leading glass schools, including The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Crafts, Snow Farm and Pilchuck Glass Schools. I have been taught by some of the world’s greatest glassblowers including Sally Prach, Elio Quarisa, and Cesare Toffolo.

Lampworking is my primary way of blowing glass. Lampworking or ‘’flameworking’’ is a technique derived from the centuries old technique of blowing glass using an oil lamp. I start with a glass tube or rod and then apply the desired colors by melting glass on the outside and encasing it in clear glass using my propane/oxygen torch, burning at approximately 5000 degrees Fahrenheit. I then blow out the piece to the desired size and shape, and further shape it with various graphite and metal tools.

I get much of my inspiration through nature and create forms such as flowers and animals.  My pieces combining the delicate details of nature and the strength of borosilicate glass are functional works of art.
