A native of Illinois, Gary Reed studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and the Ringling School of Art in Florida. He has lived in the small town of Waianae, since moving to Hawaii in 1971.

Gary’s life in a rural setting and his paintings, mostly of country landscapes, has a direct connection. He is drawn to open spaces and loves the lush vegetation of Hawaii. His hobbies are collecting palms and gardening, they have a tremendous effect on his work and spirit. He likes to paint slowly and meticulously because he has a vision of the scene in his head and it includes all the details.
