Rare 15 ½” long ITO “Miss Great Lakes” toy boat. This hydroplane is in very good original condition. There is some loss to the underside of the hull. Should be an easy fix for the hobbyist. After WW2 ITO approached various families to build these boats for them. According to Bill Arick, who has published 3 books on ITO and other toy boats, each family was assigned a number, and they put that number on the boat. In this case it is number 24, and is so signed on the inside of the hull. Bill says he has seen numbers as high as in the 500s, so it would seem that over 500 different families built these boats in the early 50s. This hydro plane comes with an original sakai motor as pictured in the photos. Very hard to find version with all factory fittings including the rear grip bars. This boat would make a great addition to a collection of boats. I can put the successful bidder in touch with Bill, if you do not already know him. He does restoration work on these boats, and I am sure he can assist you with this particular one, if you desire to “spiff” it up!
