At first I thought this painting was an oil painting, but the closer I looked it looks more like a watercolor (but I still could be wrong and it is an oil painting). What a beautiful painting this is! It is signed 'DeTreville' in the lower right hand side. I'm not sure of it's age, but I'm sure it was done sometime in the 1920's. Richard DeTreville was born in 1864 and died in 1929. He painted most of these beautiful landscapes of Northern California, San Fransisco Bay area, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe using oils. He did paint in watercolor and used oil pastels, but he mostly painted in oils. I do not know where this landscape is and I'm guessing N. California. It is rather large and measures 10 1/2" by 22 1/2", which includes the frame. The colors are bright with no fading. The frame is original and made of carved wood that has been painted in gold and black. Some of the black paint has flaked off and can be seen in photos 2 and 3. It is missing the paper backing and has a cardboard backing, but still has it's wire for hanging (it doesn't look like it was ever taken apart). Other than the flaking the frame is in wonderful condition with only one corner having a small amount of wear. The painting does have some damage of two creases on the right side that is a couple inches above his signature, photo 2. I think it is painted on canvas because of these creases, but I really don't know and I didn't want to take it apart for fear of damaging it (can that happen on board?). It is not torn, but there is a small spot in the sky that I can't tell if it is dirt or not, but it is not a water stain. It has no other damage that I can see. If you would like more photos I will be more than happy to email them. If you happen to know where this landscape is I would love to hear from you. Thank you for looking!

Questions and answers about this item
Q: Is there glass over the painting? I have a bid on it. Thanks, Don.
A: Yes there is a glass over the painting. The glass looks original to the frame and painting and has slight flaws that older glass usually has. Thank you for bringing this up for I forgot to put this in the listing.
