Sweet 1867 early school geography book, in good condition -- CORNELL’S PRIMARY GEOGRAPHY, FORMING PART FIRST OF A SYSTEMATIC SERIES OF SCHOOL GEOGRAPHIES.  Lots of  antique color maps here – Western Hemisphere, Eastern Hemisphere, The World in Hemispheres, detail maps demonstrating seas, peninsulas, mountain ranges, bays, strait, lake, riveer, and such, another Western Hemisphere map, another Eastern Hemisphere, North America,  Central America, South America, Europe, British Isles, Asia, Africa, Oceania, British Provinces (Canada), The United States, Eastern States, Middle States, New York and Vicinity, Southern States, Charleston and Vicinity, Western States (Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and such).  Plus a profusion of great black and white wood engravings showing various scenes of the world, Animals from various regions, and so on.  Also, text on the people and places of the world.  For instance, about Afghanistan we learn “A great part of the inhabitants are warlike, and dwell principally in rude tents, made of coarse cloth of camel’s or goat’s hair…..”  This copy is in much better shape than the average early geography book of this period – they tend to be greatly beat up and torn…..

Appleton & Company, 1867.  7 x 9 inches. 100 pages.  Decorated paper covered boards, leather backstrip.  Boards a bit soiled and edgworn, but basically good.  Leather in nice shape, on ½ hole in part of exterior spine joint.  Light foxing inside, but essentially Interior is clean and bright.  Tight binding. Condition:  good+ ….
