SOME COMMON CONDITION TERMS WHICH MIGHT BE HELPFUL:
BINDING:
SOME SEPERATION/BUNCHING: Some
gatherings are beginning to move apart and bunch though there is no
split/crack in the binding. Typically happens towards the front or rear
of the binding, or where there are plates inserted.
CRACK/SPLIT: Gathering
has seperated enough so you can see the spine web (for newer books),
though the spine is still continuous. This condition may extend the
entire gully or may only be at the top and/or bottom of the gully. Also
there are different degrees involved.
BROKEN: Spine web itself is split in two and is no longer continuous. Generally I do not sell books in this condition.
HINGES:
BOARDS SOME PLAY: Everything is attached but there is some play. The hinge is no longer as tight as new.
WEB EXPOSED/PAPER TORN AWAY: The hinge has not quite split but you can see the webbing.
HINGE SPLIT: There is an outright seperation between the board and endpaper though the web is still continuous. I also can use this if this condition occurs between an endpaper and a title page, etc.
HINGE BROKEN: Board/text
body no longer continuous. Generally I do not sell books in this
condition though there are exceptions for very rare/old books.
