Here is a new print of a 1907 illustration drawn by famed artist Harrison Fisher.  A beautiful woman, an American Beauty sniffing two, full-blossomed American Beauty Roses in a glass vase.  As this young woman is absorbed in the beauty of the roses, we are caught up in her beauty.  As a reminder of the fragility of all beauty, rose petals have already begun to fall from the roses onto the table.  Nevertheless, for this moment, beauty is totally absorbing us all.  This is a classic Harrison Fisher rendering.  A beautiful woman with eyes closed or diverted—her dress appearing to fade away as your eyes move away from the face.  Harrison’s signature was printed lightly on the lower right of the illustration.

The caption at the bottom reads: “American Beauties, Harrison Fisher.   

Harrison Fisher (1875 – 1934), along with William Chandler Christy and Charles Dana Gibson, created the beautiful young women who graced the covers and insides of America’s magazines during the early part of the twentieth century.  He and his compatriots gave the world “The American Girl”, at a time when the word girl had no negative context.  With his pen and brush he created an enduring image of beauty for beauties’ sake—no apologies needed or accepted.  For Fisher, Cosmopolitan covers became a long time venue for his art.  These portraits of women were his lifetime work and today still intrigue us.  For good reason he was called “The Father of a Thousand Girls.”  Fisher put it more simply: “I like to draw.”  We are glad he did.

This print is on a high-quality 100# glossy text paper.  The actual image measures 10.5” (w) X 16.5” (h).  The paper is 11” (w) x 17” (h).  Therefore, it has a small border to allow for framing.  When matted, this size is perfect for a standard 16” x 20” frame, a manageable size for a variety of decorating purposes.
