Synopsis
In this political exposé, journalist Edward Klein digs deeply into Hillary Clinton's past and looks at her prospects for the future--which will very likely include a run for the presidency in 2008. Klein's research has resulted in a barrelful of rumors, reports, and innuendoes, many of which are unattributed. Klein reports on Hillary Rodham's early childhood, telling us how she punched a boy in the nose, as well as on her undergraduate years at Wellesley, which he claims had "a long tradition of lesbianism." During her years in Arkansas, there were comments on her unkempt appearance and more rumors of lesbianism--but was there a close personal relationship with family friend and White House counsel Vince Foster? According to Klein, Hillary hired private detectives to keep Bill's mistresses in line, knowing, in Klein's words, "who could be intimidated to keep their mouths shut." Klein has much to say about the White House years, comparing events as they appeared in Hillary's book, LIVING HISTORY, with other sources, looking for inconsistencies. On the issue of her husband's escapade with Monica Lewinsky, it is clear that Klein believes she knew before she was officially told. Throughout, Klein examines issues of character, including Hillary's much-commented-on ambition, which some see as ruthlessness. Her bid for Senator Daniel Moynihan's blessing prior to her run for the Senate was self-serving and insincere, he reports, and Moynihan's side saw through it. Interestingly, the person Klein compares Hillary to most is Richard Nixon, who was famous for his "enemies list" and who constantly reinvented himself, something Klein sees in Hillary. In THE TRUTH ABOUT HILLARY, Edward Klein presents a highly critical and controversial portrait of someone who, in his view, may be unfit to serve in the highest office of the land.

Publisher's Note
Hillary Rodham Clinton is the most polarizing figure in American politics. Love her or hate her, everyone has a strong opinion about the former first lady turned senator who is almost certainly going to run for president in 2008. Despite more than a dozen years in the national spotlight and more than a dozen unauthorized books about her, she has managed to keep many secrets from the public--especially about her turbulent marriage and its impact on her career. There have been plenty of rumors about what Hillary and Bill did behind closed doors, but never a definitive book that exposes the truth. Bestselling author Edward Klein draws on rare access to inside sources to reveal what Hillary knew and when she knew it during her years as first lady, especially during her husband's impeachment. Klein's book will break news about the choices and calculations she has made over the years. It will also prove that she lied to America in her bestselling autobiography LIVING HISTORY. When she was just a little girl, Hillary Rodham dreamed of becoming the first female president, and her lifelong dream is almost within reach. But just as the swiftboat veterans convinced millions of voters that John Kerry lacked the character to be president, Klein's book will influence everyone who is sizing up the character of Hillary Clinton.
