Synopsis
Jeff Shaara completes his epic World War II trilogy (which also includes THE RISING TIDE and THE STEEL WAVE) in grand fashion with NO LESS THAN VICTORY, which begins just after the Normandy invasion and follows through to the end of the European campaign, when the Allies' celebration is quickly muted by the discovery of the concentration camps. Shaara provides powerful and pellucid descriptions of the most brutal battles of the war, including the slaughter in the Ardennes forest and the pivotal Battle of the Bulge, simultaneously illuminating the strategy and significance of each skirmish while capturing the horrific conditions faced by the men on the front. While the grunts sacrifice their lives in the trenches, commanders on both sides scramble to find some advantage, as Hitler desperately clings to his sickening vision of Aryan dominance even as his inner circle begins to plan for surrender. Shaara's brilliant saga should endure for some time as one of the finest depictions of World War II in literary history.
