Synopsis
Little Amy Dorrit is born in debtors' prison, and subsequently works as a seamstress. Her father finally escapes from prison when he inherits a large fortune, and the family settles in Italy. However, a family friend, Arthur Clennam, is the victim of an elaborate fraud and of Dickens's satiric invention, the Circumlocution Office, and finds himself in the same debtors' prison, where Little Dorrit rescues him. The two fall in love and live happily ever after in spite of the loss of the Dorrit fortune. LITTLE DORRIT is another of Dickens's anti-materialist novels in which the villains are those in pursuit of money and status.
