I've decided to truly downsize, and not just pack things away in storage. Wish I knew more about this lamp, but I don't. I'm fairly certain it is pre- 1950's - the bulb sockets are marked "Paiste". I purchased it to accent a Mission style home with modern contemporary furniture- and it was an eclectic stand-out. The intricate cut-out brass shade has a wonderful grayish patina (that I'd never touch) and fits the style from the transition to the Arts and Crafts era. The lamp is approximately 24" high and 15" wide and functions like a work horse. We've used it different places as a reading, entry-table and desk lamp- it takes two bulbs operated by seperate pull-chains that glide and function perfectly - so one or both bulbs may be lit. It takes 60 watt bulbs max - the photos shows 25 watt bulbs currently being used. A surprise and major bonus is the vast and detailed up-light shadows cast on the ceiling and walls when lit at night - it's a stunning effect and instant ambience. The engravings and metal cuts include antelopes (or deer), birds and vines. Though it was working fine, for peace of mind, in 2009 we had a lamp shop replace the cord and plug and original rubber sockets - so it's modern in the unseen components for safety. At the top of the base, below the light sockets there are scratches in the metal - I've never even noticed this til I was looking carefully to describe accurately here. They are inline with a functional piece of this age and are not noticeable - in the second photo-- the scratches are on the bell-shaped piece at the very bottom of the photo. I've only seen one other similiar to this lamp- six months ago listed online for around $1,000...I thought it was on Ruby Lane....but I couldn't find it when I looked again before listing my lamp....that dealer told me they were produced in Syria in the 1930's. He said that many were melted-down during the war - and that is why they are rare now. He said a craftsman would spend months completing a lamp. I have no idea if this info. he told me is correct. I know the lamp is special and lights up a room perfectly and beautifully. I will pack it carefully and ship with insurance within four days of receiving payment via PayPal. I cannot offer a return option, but welcome your questions and will answer promptly prior to purchase. |
