The Flighty Kite – charming illustrated children’s book, 1920s.

This is a wonderful children’s story book titled The Flighty Kite that was published by Alf Cooke Ltd of Leeds and London some time around the mid-1920s I think. No author or illustrator is credited, which is a shame as the pictures throughout the book are lovely – especially the rather sinister-looking Kite in the first story.

The book measures 10½” x 7½” and the thirty-six pages contain two stories. The first is The Flightly Kite, and the second is A Day At The Zoo – which are totally unconnected, with different characters. The covers each have the same picture of Harry, the boy from the first story, and his Kite. It is printed on fairly stiff card and is quite shiny – although over the 80+ years it has deteriorated slightly and it shows some creasing. But no rips or grazes and the cover alone displays well. The story itself an illustration on each page, most of which show Harry’s Kite, which he paints the face onto at the start of the tale. (The text in the stories is in blocks of four lines that rhyme). Harry has a bit of a nightmare day with his Kite as it drags him around the place causing all sorts of trouble and eventually the string breaks and flies away. The second story is about a little boy and girl named Joey and May who visit the Zoo. Nothing particularly exciting but it is an excuse to meet all sorts of animals – all very nicely illustrated. I have dated the book from its general style / appearance and also the clothing that the children are wearing in the pictures. I would guess that it is nearer 1920 than 1930.

It is impossible to be an expert in all realms of collecting, and I am honestly representing this item to the best of my knowledge and ability. If the item has a fault then I have mentioned it. I ask that you read the description and examine the photos carefully. I also encourage you to ask any questions you may have during the auction to help clarify identification or condition, as I may inadvertently omit information that you as a collector feel is important.                                                                                                           My email address is oldvan.ebay@btinternet.com

I am not able to provide scans of paper items and I have no facility to record / copy any records.

ALL of my AUCTION ITEMS are now listed with
FREE POSTAGE
IN THE UK.

(They are not actually free to post of course! I have to pay to post them but for UK bidders the price you see at the end of the auction is the total price you pay.  Foreign postal rates are clearly stated).

PACKAGING.    Please note that all of my items are well-packed in thick card or in boxes, and then wrapped in good quality brown paper.   I do not make any separate charge for packaging materials - everything is included in the final price. Many of my feedback comments mention my good packaging and I will of course continue to meet my own standards.

POSTAL DISPUTE - If you are at all worried about the effects of the postal dispute and would like me to delay posting your item please let me know and I will be happy to send it when you want me to.      Two years ago, when there were a series of one and two-day strikes the effects were minimal, and although the odd item took a couple of days extra to arrive, I was relieved and am happy to report that everything was perfectly safe at all times. Items being mailed abroad did not seem to be affected at all.

Payment

UK WINNERS - I still accept and am very happy to receive cheques and postal orders as payment methods, as well as PayPal.

I will send an invoice to the winner soon after the auction ends. If not using PayPal, when you first email me PLEASE include your postal / shipping details.

OVERSEAS BIDDERS - Payment is to be made in GB Pounds, as the item is listed in pounds. Please use PayPal via the link on the auction page.  If you do not use PayPal and want to mail payment you MUST contact me before bidding so so we can agree the payment method in advance.

If you are in Italy and you want to bid on this item please contact me at least two days before the end of the auction.

Return policy
I wrap all items well, in strong / sturdy card or boxes and will not be held responsible for damage caused during shipping. If any such damage occurs I will be happy to help where I will where I can, with proof of posting etc, but where the problem has obviously been caused in the postal system then your issue is with the postal people, not with me.

I will be happy to receive back any item that differs from my description. (Size / Colour / Condition etc) If this is the case I will pay the cost of posting it back to me. But I will NOT pay the postage if there is no real reason for it being returned.
