Seller's Review:

As I was growing up, shop and "applied arts" was a regular part of the schools.

We were probably the last generation, the generation of the 50's and 60's, that still had a sense of scarcity or the programs and art projects left over from that era - the great depression - and before - where actual materials and money were very scarce, and people "made-do" with whatever was at hand, trying to the simple into the beautiful and amazing.

There is something special, something magical, about starting with the most humble of materials, a pile of old tools and some old screws and tin cans, and left over paint, and ended up with a new, unique, and beautiful toy that is fun and functions and lasts.

Somehow a trip to the toy store, no matter how beautiful the toy, will never have the magic in the toy that it had when you watched mom or dad or grandfather smile and take the pile of stuff and turn it into something made just for you.

It is the ultimate statement, even if done imperfectly in skills, to invest time and effort and caring to make something special and unique for someone.

this books is of that generation, the time when both out of necessity and out of character, people made things for people, heart to heart, investing not buck, but time, thought, caring, and perhaps love.

So what is in this book ... well, sure you will learn how to use simple tools and tin cans to make great toys, and you will have fun doing it.

Great pictures, good instructions on how to do it, and the like.

Simple enough any of us can do it.

But that is not what is in this book - sure you can see those things and learn them from this book, but

what is really in this book?

Magic
Delight

Something old becoming something new, just for you.
You can do it too.

Enjoy,
