I have a small collection of Indian trade type knives that I will be auctioning over the next 2 or 3 weeks (see 5th photo). This knife is an old Mountain Man/Indian Trade type knife that I believe may date back to the 1800's. It is marked with the oval shaped logo "LAMSON & GOODNOW MFG CO" on the blade. They started making knives in 1837. The overall length is 10 1/2" and the blade length is about 6". The blade is about 1/16" thick by 1 1/16" wide and the tang is full length in the handle. The scales are wood (walnut, I think) and are held firmly by 5 rivets. The handle is 11/16" thick by 1 1/8" wide by 4 3/8" long. There is a two piece pewter? bolster. The metal parts have a nice patina. This would be a great knife for one of you mountain man, rendezvous type people. No sales to anyone under age 18. No international sales. |
