The game is the seventh installment in the survival horror series Resident Evil , and was released on March 5, 2009 in Japan and on March 13, 2009 in North America and Europe for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 . Resident Evil 5 takes place a 10 years after the events of Resident Evil . The story revolves around Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar as they investigate a Umbrella terrorist threat on the desert region of Africa . They find that Ricardo Irving is planning to launch a virus with the help of Umbrella, and are forced on a mission to stop the virus before spreads through Africa and eventually the world.

Within it's first three weeks of release, over 500,000 units worldwide and became the highest selling game of the franchise in the United Kingdom . The game received fairly well reviews with the Xbox 360 version scoring a 85 out of 100 and it's Playstation 3 component, a 86 out of 100 on Metacritic . There was some controversy over perceived racist undertones as the game features a white protagonist shooting mostly black zombies.
