Definition of Book Grades

Very Fine or As New:   A perfect unread copy in the same immaculate condition in which it was published. 

                                          The highest grade given to any copy.     (rarely used)

Fine:   A copy that has no real defects or faults but lacks the pristine crispness of a Very Fine copy. 

Note:  From here on there may be + or – in a grade which means that it is above the grade noted but not quite

             to the next higher grade for + and that it is below the grade noted but not quite to the next lower grade for - .

Near Fine:   A book is approaching Fine but has a couple of minor defects or faults or light wear. 

Very Good:   A Very Good copy is no longer fresh; it has been handled and shows signs of wear

                               but is still sound and appealing.  

Good:   The average used and worn book that has all pages present.

Fair:   A very worn book that has complete text pages.

Poor:   A book that is extremely worn.  It’s only merit is that it has the complete and legible text.
