MY TAKE ON IT:

It's about time Ludwig!!  The target for these drums was to make them priced affordably and have the same features and sound as the most famous, most sought after snare, the Black Beauty.  That is exactly what this is.  The sound is crisp, articulate, everything you want in a brass snare.  And anything Ludwig does to commemorate it's heritage skyrockets in value over time.  This is ideal.

MY RECOMMENDATION:

I would swap the heads out with first quality heads of your choice.  I would suggest a Remo USA CS Reverse dot coated batter and hazy snare side with a set of PURE SOUND wires.  If that is not your sound, I can switch them out for you.  I will be more than happy to help dial in the tone you are looking for on this or ANY drum.  I will change the heads and tune this up to your liking.  I will do all the labor at NO CHARGE!!
