| Recording information: Excello Recording, Brooklyn, New York (2006). The once straight-up raucous Brooklyn, New York, trio the Rogers Sisters hit upon a seamless blend of punk swagger and new wave austerity for their third full-length, 2006's THE INVISIBLE DECK. All the key elements are there--the fierce backbeat, angular fuzzed-out guitars, strategically placed synth lines, and multi-layered guy/girl choruses--on songs like "The Light" and "Why Won't You." And while the Rogers Sisters might not be making the most inventive music around, there's enough variety (the dark, lurching "Your Littlest World") and vitality (the Feelies-esque "The Clock") happening to keep things interesting. It's on "You Undecided," however, that the Rogers Sisters really come up with something special, nailing every component necessary to make what could be the perfect retro-rock song for the year 2006. | |

| [They] carve out a niche within the neo-post-punk scene that's wholly distinct from, and perhaps more compelling than, top-tiered torchbearers Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Kills....A taut, 40-minute affair with no filler. Magnet 4 stars out of 5 -- With siblings Laura and Jennifer Rogers on drums, guitar and vocals, and honorary brother Miyuki Furtado singing and playing bass, the Sisters generate the kind of urgency you'd expect from people tunnelling out of Death Row. Mojo 3 stars out of 5 -- [T]heir sound is now driven by a dark undertow, with heavy psych-rock and muscly R&B inflections. Uncut 3.5 stars out of 5 -- The Brooklyn-via-Detroit trio's post-punk grooves come on like party starters, even when they're raging about bad jobs and dashed dreams. Rolling Stone | |
