| Synopsis | |
| Wendell Newton, a failed novelist, presides over the Famous Writers School, a correspondence course that consists mostly of Newton's self-aggrandizing lessons on the art of writing. The students that come to him are a motley crew, but when Dan, a John Deere salesman with a knack for writing hardboiled crime fiction, starts submitting quality fiction, Wendell is consumed with jealously and begins passing the work off as his own. Steven Carter comically depicts the overblown egos at large in the writing world, and, in Wendell, creates a delightfully flawed protagonist. | |

| Industry reviews | |
| "[Steven] Carter has a terrific ear for the rumblings of the human ego and an intuitive sense of how fiction is often substituted for truth--and vice versa." (07/31/2006) | |
