Newlands Manor lies in the area of South Hampshire between New Milton and Lymington. Originally little more than a farmhouse until in 1798, the property was acquired by William Cornwallis from Sir John D'Oyly. At first he leased the property but then bought the freehold. For over a century that house was to be the subject of change and was for some time towards the end of that period to be the centre of social life in a fairly extreme form, at least for those days. The Cornwallis-West name, which was to be so prominent for many years in the upper reaches of the aristocracy and Royal circles, was an invention to retain the name of this singular sailor who had not married, but whose ‘adopted' family chose to remember his life. This is the story of the Cornwallis-West family from 1835 until 1984 when it all ended, at least in that name. Hardback 208 pages, over 30 illustrations ISBN 978-1897887769
