sumiGOLD moisturizers are excellent for people with damaged or sensitive skin, including patients receiving radiation therapy. Products in the sumiGOLD line are perfume-free aqueous creams with hyaluronic acid and calendula, plus aloe vera. These ingredients have been shown in studies that were published in peer-reviewed journals to be effective in treating patients receiving radiation therapy.* For shipment to the United States only. sumiGOLD heavyweight is an aqueous cream with 0.5% hyaluronic acid and 10% calendula-infused oil, plus 5% aloe vera. The heavyweight moisturizer feels similar to a mild cream. It is for extra moisturizing and continues to hydrate your skin long after you apply it. It is ideal for use before bedtime. The 2 ounce size will last a typical user several weeks. Apply 2-3 times per day or as directed by a physician. Science We reviewed studies published in peer-reviewed medical journals to identify substances that were found to be effective in treating skin irritation caused by radiation therapy. Calendula, aqueous cream, and hyaluronic acid all performed better than control substances in the published studies. We put each of them into sumiGOLD. Aloe vera was effective in a narrow circumstance, and is also in sumiGOLD. You can read our review of the published studies and download it (a 12-page PDF) by going to www.sumiderm.com. We invite you to do your own research - you'll see that the ingredients in sumiGOLD have been found to be effective in independent studies published in prestigious journals. Some highlights from our review Studies cited concluded that the following common products seem to be effective: Aqueous cream was more effective than aloe vera in reducing dry desquamation and pain. Calendula was more effective than Biafine (trolamine) in treating skin irritation and pain. Hyaluronic acid (0.2%) was more effective than a placebo in preventing and treating skin irritation. Studies cited in the paper had mixed findings with aloe vera. It was found to be ineffective in four studies. A fifth study found that use of aloe vera delayed the onset of skin irritation in patients treated with higher doses of radiation.
