Although singer and saxophonist Tex Beneke is not a household name, he was once one of the most popular singers and players in the world, as Glenn Miller's vocalist and sideman. His warm tones graced the big hit "Chattanooga Choo-Choo," among others. This 25-track assemblage of his swing-era hits honors him in his role as a bandleader, with live and studio recordings from several dates between 1951 and 1956. Classics like the title tune, "Singin' in the Rain," and "Georgia on my Mind" get the full orchestral treatment, and listeners unfamiliar with the era's canon will delight in discovering gems like "Riverboat Shuffle" and "Palladium Patrol."
