You are bidding on a magnificent Fossil Trilobite, Phacops rana , from Morocco.It rolls into a ball when threatened. The name 'rana' derives from the fact thta the trilobite has 'frog- looking' eyes. Beautifully preserved lenses are present in both eyes. Phacops lived during the Devonian on a prehistoric ocean floor, which is now part of the Atlas mountains of Morocco.This beautiful specimen is authentic. The limestone in which the fossil is embedded is extremely hard. The best way to find these fossils is to hit the chunk of rock with a hammer. When it splits the fossil is revealed. The matrix does have a couple of cracks which have been repaired.

The fossil measures 1.6 inches long and 0.8 inches wide. The entire specimen measures 2.1 inches long and, 1.9 inches wide and 1.6 inches high. The fossil is black whereas the matrix is a greyish brown color. It is truly a beautiful specimen, offered at a very reasonable price.
