Metamorphoses by Ovid, published 1756 in London by W. Innys and J. Richardson, R. Ware, C. Hitch and L. Hawes, J. Hodges, J. and J. Rivington, R. Baldwin, J. Ward, W. Johnston, M. and T. Longman, and Davey and B. Law
The title page reads in full: "OVID'S Metamorphoses, in Fifteen Books: with the Arguments and Notes of JOHN MINELLIUS translated into English. To which is Marginally added, A PROSE VERSION; viz. the very words of OVID, digested into the proper Order in Construing; by the Assistance of which Young Scholars, of but a very small Acquaintance with the Rules of Grammar, may be enabled of themselves, with Ease and Pleasure, to learn their Lessons without Interruption to the Teacher. For the Use of Schools, by NATHAN BAILEY, author of the Universal, Etymological, English Dictionary. The Fourth Edition.
This is the original Latin work, with a prose version in Latin, commentary in English, and a synopsis of each section in English.
This is a leather bound hardback book, 8" by 5", 662 pages plus index. Please check the scans carefully. The front cover is detached, along with the first 22 pages. The last scan shows the detached cover next to the main body of the book. The pages are moderately browned, with an occasional rip or blemish. The spine is missing a piece at the top, about 1" by 2 1/2". There is general wear to the cover, with the edges being about 80% exposed. There is some antique handwriting on the back of the title page, the back endpage, and on parts of a few other pages. This book would be a very good candidate for repair.
