Synopsis: Northern California. Summer. 1850. Corporate mining boss Coy LaHood doesn't take kindly to the claim staked by the local pan miners. So he offers them a deal: get out - or be carried out. But LaHood will have to reconsider his deal when a stranger rides into the miners' camp. To them he's the "Preacher." To LaHood he's an avenging Pale Rider ...and hell followed with him. Joining Eastwood is a first-rate cluster of supporting stars. Richard Dysart is the cutthroat baron LaHood, who send his surly son (Christopher Penn) and some swaggering thugs to ruthlessly lay waste to the land and dreams of the pan miners.With quiet courage and deadly aim, the Preacher restores the faith of the beleaguered miners until their renewed confidence has them "dug in deeper than ticks on a hound." But LaHood has one more card to play. If he can't drive them out, he'll wipe them out. He enlists the gun-for-hire services of a murderous gang, a badge-wearing killer and his duster-shrouded deputies, whose loyalties lie with whatever law pays the most. LaHood pays gold. But the Preacher, in the thrilling, must-see, climactic shoot-out, pays off in lead. Like its title character, Pale Rider becomes the stuff of cinema legend.
