Designed by the Ettore Sottsass in 1979 for Alessi, Italy, this is his classic magnum champagne/wine cooler. This fabulous piece was part of a series of objects created by Sottsass intended for bar service in the late 1970s. This piece is gorgeous and would be a focal point during entertaining. Its archetypal Sottsass details can be seen in the treatment of the exterior knob-like handles; each handle end culminates in a brown painted metal disc that provides visual interest. The exterior of the piece is in polished 18/10 stainless steel; the interior and underside in a satin/brushed finish 18/10 stainless steel. In overall excellent vintage condition with minor use/wear (nothing objectionable) - in fact, this piece looks as if it were seldom used. It still retains its removable manufacturer's transparent label on the exterior (detail in photo #3) as well being marked on the underside as illustrated in photo #4. Photos #3, 6, and #7 show the handles in detail. Measures 10.25 (handle span) x 8.25" diameter (opening) x 10 3/8" height. As with all of my auctions, I am happy to combine shipping.
