Gem Roller Organ Country Store Antiques Gallery All of the levers work to sound each note, the pads are all intact and the reeds all play very well... The crank mechanism is in fine shape too; not only does it work the bellows, but it also causes the cob to turn so the pins can activate the levers and open the valves so the notes will play, and you need to turn it about 84 times just to play one cob! And after the 84 turns of the crank, the mechanism re-sets automatically and is ready to play the song again... Here is the right side, notice that the bottom panel does not have a decal / decoration on it, I believe that this panel was replaced at some point in the past, but the cut of the wood and the coloring seem to indicate that it is an old repair and does nothing to affect the playing of the organ... And here is the back of the case. Notice that the bellows is in very good condition also... The left side does have the decal / decoration on the bottom panel as seen here... Here is another look at the front... On the bottom you can see the wood and valves for the bellows, they look a little too good to be original, so I am guessing that someone has done some restoration on this one. Which means that it should give you many years of Fun playing it for your friends... Another point of restoration is the inside of the front panel, there is a little split in the wood where the original screw hole was, so they made a new hole to the right as seen here... There are three cobs that come with this; the first one is on the organ, and the others two are here... The one on the organ has most of the label intact on one end, and that gives a patent date of July 14, 1885, it is song number 1116, and I believe the title is “Whistling Rufus”. This one plays quite well with only a few pins that might be out of place. The one on the left in these pics has the label almost all gone, so I don’t have any information on that one other than to say that I recognize the song as “I Wish I Were In Dixie”. I don’t see any missing pins, and only a few pins that might be bent a little, but when I play this one it sounds like there are little gaps in the song. It may have been written that way 120 years ago, but keep that in mind when you play it. The third cob, on the right in the pics, has most of the label intact, it has a patent number of 322,390 which was issued in 1885, it is song number 1195 “The Lads In Navy Blue”. I see a few bent pins, and when I play it on the organ it sounds great too! A Grand old piece that I have enjoyed owning, and I am certain you will too!
