Description:   19th century Carte de visite of Charles Fechter (1824-1879).  European born and began early career as a sculptor.  Discovered his acting talents around 1841, winning awards by 1844.  First appeared in New York City at Niblo's Garden in 1870 and stayed in this country until his death in 1879.  Nice photographic image of a younger Fechter with good contrast.  One small tear and one small missing piece on his left arm and some gray mottling in the background.  Backstamped Chalres D. Fredricks & Co, NY, with a fragment of a Civil War era tax stamp.

Over the next few weeks, I will be listing many artists from this collection of actors, actresses, singers, dancers, musicians and others.  If you have an interest in stage performers of the mid nineteenth century, be sure to keep an eye on my listings!

Provenance:  This CDV is from a large collection of images assembled by a prominent 19th century cotton broker in North Carolina in the last half of the 19th century.  He was also a founder of the Charlotte Opera House.  His CDV album contained numerous images of important and influential figures of the 19th century, particularly persons living during the Civil War era in America.  These images are fresh to the market, all from the same collection and are being offered here on eBay for the first time.

Many are from the photographic negatives of Matthew Brady and his National Portrait Gallery images and have Civil War Revenue Tax Stamps as well as photographer and/or publisher imprints on the back.  Any handwritten identifications or otherwise were already on the cards when they were removed from the album and have not been added by me.  Almost all of the 300 cards are identified.

Condition:  Each image is scanned and imperfections and condition issues should be visible.  I have not enhanced the scanned image.  However, individual computer monitors will vary.  Some of the images have light foxing and minor imperfections on the surface consistent with age.  Bid with confidence as your satisfaction is guaranteed.

Details:  Accept Paypal, shipping $1.50, return for full refund of purchase price including initial shipping charges.  Buyer pays return shipping.  As always, your satisfaction is guaranteed.  If you do not wish to keep your purchase you may return it for any reason.  All CDV's will be shipped in an archival mylar sleeve.

I will be listing more of this collection during the coming weeks so be sure to see my other auctions!
