The Tournament Player's Guide This book is in very good condition. It has a couple of dings on the rear cover. It has a small stain on the outer pages. The inner pages are clean and unmarked. It was printed in 1997 by Batsford. 158 pages. The endgame is an important area of chess and many rating points are lost through an insufficient understanding of basic priniciples. James Howell concentrates on the typical endings which are most likely to occur in your own games. Rook endings appear regularly in tournaments and this section of the book will repay handsomely with careful study. However, even the comparatively simple king and pawn endings should not be neglected as was demonstrated when Kasparov missed a simple win against Karpov in the 1997 Las Palmas tournament. Endings with an extra pawn are the most difficult to assess and many draws can be salvaged by resourceful play. I combine shipping costs if you buy more than one item.
