This post-Vietnam War history tells of the 1975 capture of the USS Mayaguez by the Khmer Rouge and the disastrous and failed rescue mission that cost 41 American soldiers their lives. THE LAST BATTLE reveals that three Marines were inadvertently left behind, and that, for 20 years, the Pentagon refused to admit this. Wetterhan is a military historian and former pilot who had access to the minutes of National Security Council meetings of President Ford and his staff.
