I PURCHASED THIS SET AT A LOCAL PENNSYLVANIA ANTIQUE MARKET

I BELIEVE THIS WHEEL WAS USED TO EMBOSS GOLD GILT OR OTHER DESIGNS ON THE LEATHER OF THE BOOK - AS YOU CAN SEE THE DETAILED EDGES OF THE WHEEL WOULD CREATE A UNIQUE BORDER AROUND ON THE COVER WHEN PRESSED INTO IT.

I DO KNOW THAT THESE TOOLS ARE PRETTY RARE

THE WHEEL IS MARKED BY THE MAKER: JOHN R HOOLE 124 NASSAU ST NY AND HAS A NUMBER 128

THERE IS SOME CRACKING WHERE THE METAL PART GOES INTO THE WOOD...IM SURE IT WAS DUE TO MANY YEARS OF USE.  THERE IS ALSO SOME WEAR TO THE ORIGINAL WOOD HANDLE BUT EXPECTED FROM THE YEARS OF USE.

MEASURES 21 1/4 INCHES LONG AND THE DISK MEASURES 3 1/4 INCHES IN DIAMETER
