In 1998 I started studying this
subject of skin care ingredients extensively. They
say it takes 10 years of passionately doing something 40 hours a week to become
an expert. If that is the case, I became an expert about 5 years
ago. I was just amazed at what was being sold as beneficial which essentially
did nothing. We bought and tested extracts and found they were mostly watered down to
almost colored water. And oils supposedly 'natural' were so over processed and
heated at incredibly high temperatures that they were comparable to petroleum derived mineral oil. And what the
heck were these long un-pronounceable ingredients on product labels? Well it
turns out these aren't single ingredients but 'products' in themselves. Usually
made by giant chemical companies. Their ingredients were secret. So it really
wasn't possible to know exactly what was in most products. Was this a way of
getting around disclosure laws? I thought the government was supposed to protect
us? LOL.
We now know a lot of the component
ingredients of these long un-pronounceable products are made up of animal
derived ingredients (bones tendons and other parts that are thrown away by the
butcher), sulfurs, sea weeds (with all sorts of pollutants), chemicals,
silicones, Phthalates, artificial soaps, and only God knows what else.
This, we
have come to believe is our reason for being. Bringing quality products at
affordable prices directly to our customers.
We hope you continue to enjoy them.

Below are the details about how
we came up with this:
Solving skin problems is what we do.
And for the longest time it has perplexed us to solve the riddle of
dry feet. Every moisturizer we came up with, no matter how thick, didn't seem to
do much for those suffering from these dry cracked feet problems. I have family
members who just didn't understand with all we've been able to accomplish, why
couldn't we fix their feet?
As everyone with problem feet knows
the skin there is different than anywhere else on your body. It really doesn't
respond very well to moisturizers. It takes a special combination of oils and
butters and waxes, without water to get the skin there to soften.
We test all of our products on humans
only. I've been trying for years to help my sister's feet. After my sister
with the super dry feet gave us two enthusiastic thumbs up for this version,
next we thought
the perfect person to run this by would be a pedicurist in a salon. We found a
good one who was willing to try something new. She already is using our products
for herself. She took a couple of tubes and was surprised to find her clients
comment on how it was a remarkable feeling for their feet. Sort of a warming
feeling. Hard to describe. Anyway the next thing she said was: how can I get
more?
I personally don't have dry feet or
even thought about using such a product, but when I tried it I was amazed at how
sensual it felt. Almost erotic. OK I don't have a foot fetish, but it really
felt good after it was left on the foot for 15 minutes or so. Then I just
massaged it in and went to bed. Woke up the next day with dewy soft skin
on the bottom of my feet.
How do you recommend using this? You
can just rub it on anytime you have a few minutes to allow it to absorb. When
I started testing this on my feet I exfoliated first. Which removes dead skin
cells. Any of our exfoliants (scrubs) work perfectly for this. Just make sure to
wash afterwards with the natural soap and rinse well. Dry off your feet. Then go
sit in front of the TV with a foot stool. This comes in a push up stick. Just
rub on. Use your fingers if you like to make sure all areas are covered. Then
let your feet dangle over the foot rest as long as you can. At least 15 minutes.
Most will absorb into your feet. Massage the rest in. Enjoy.
You foot fetish people out there, I'll
leave you to figure this all out as far as a routine. I'm pretty certain you
will know what to do.
We've actually had this product finished
for a few months and just haven't got around to getting it in production and
out to our customers. But now we are getting people who have tried it bugging us
to get it out there.
We believe an informed consumer
is going to make better decisions about products they buy.
ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS WE USE: We don't use
cheap ingredients. Many companies talk about the natural ingredients they use.
The question is how natural are they?
What is 'LABEL CANDY'?
Label candy is a term used for an ingredient in a product in the skin
care industry or supplement industry used to sell a product. Often weak (inexpensive,
watered down) extracts are put on the label to encourage a person to buy
something that contains what turns out to be very little of the ingredient they
are boasting about. You see them, extracts of: valerian root, white
willow, horse tail, licorice root, calendula, comfrey, rosemary and it goes on
and on (sounds like potions from a Harry Potter movie). If you could find any
significant amounts of these ingredients (and I doubt you will) they still
wouldn't do anything for your skin other than to get you to buy the product. In
other words they are label candy. They perform no useful function to helping the
skin. ALL they do is to get you to buy a product filled with sulfurs, artificial soaps and
un-pronounceable ingredients.
All of the ingredients in
our products are real, in significant quantities and really do
something good for the skin. Contrary to what Madison Avenue is selling us, oils
are good. Each variety contains important nutrients our skin can use.
We use the finest quality
ingredients. Many
commonly used oils and butters
by companies who call themselves natural, are so highly processed at such high temperatures that they are virtually
worthless. All the goodness has been processed out of them. You see a lot of
inexpensive oils, like grape seed oils and sweet almond oils. Most of our
ingredients we use are raw or at least not processed with high temperatures. The difference is evident in the
quality of our products.
What about so called 'organic'
ingredients? Not so sure about eating organic
products. Probably a good idea. As far as skin care? At this point they mostly fall into
the label candy category. You can get seed oils organic from traditionally
harvested seeds like sunflower. But most of the high quality oils are harvested
from plants that grow wild (Wild-crafted). Often grown in third world countries
where the natives rely on this as income. For an ingredient to be organic, it
has to be able, if challenged, to prove it's provenance. In other words what was
used to fertilize it and any pesticides that were used. This is hard if not
impossible to do from a plant growing wild in a far away country. I am therefore
skeptical when a product starts throwing around the organic label. We use
organic sunflower oil in one of our products, but it tests absolutely the same
as non-organic. It's a good selling term and a lot of people are getting rich
using it, just not certain it means anything right now in the skin care industry.
MAGIC FORMULATION? What is the
secret? No magic, just a lot of hard work getting
this formulation exactly right. Some of these ingredients are super absorbing
and some are less so. We believe the super absorbing ingredients when paired
with the less absorbing ones help the less absorbing ones go deeper in the skin
to get more benefit to your skin. For example, Mango butter is a surface oil.
Jojoba for example is a highly absorbing oil. Just pairing the two seems to move
the mango deeper into the skin where it can do more good. This product has many
such combinations.
INGREDIENTS (in order of
prominence):
Mango Butter:
Mango butter is taken from the seed kernels of the fruit of the
mango tree. It is similar in texture to shea butter and is softer than cocoa
butter. It has a very light yellow/mango color. High in unsaponifiables. It
gives products a luxurious feel. We use a natural variety. We needed a
semi-solid butter for this formulation. We found in the tests we ran Mango
proved to be an unusual, but best choice. We buy it in 55 pound cubes that cost
about $250. This is the least expensive ingredient (and much more expensive than
most products use).
Camelina oil:
This oil is also known as false flax or gold-of-pleasure and is
high in Omega-3 linolenic acid. Records of plant cultivation date back as far as
the Iron Age as the oil was used as a source of fuel as well as a skin
moisturizer. Research shows that Camelina oil has good skin softening
properties. It is emollient, has good spreading properties, provides lubricity
in both hair and skin preparations, and improves skin elasticity. Only the very
best lip balms would ever consider using Camelina. Costs about $60 a gallon
Cocoa Butter:
This is the really good stuff (and more expensive too)! Pressed
cocoa butter is the fat which is obtained by hydraulic pressing of cocoa nib or
cocoa mass (cocoa liquor) obtained from cocoa beans. It is either filtered or
centrifuged. This is an all natural process and no solvents are used. We use
cocoa butter for its firmness.
Beeswax: White High
end variety.
Jojoba Oil:
Jojoba is very similar in composition to human natural skin oils.
It technically is not an oil, but a wax. It penetrates the skin rapidly to
nourish it; also softens and moisturizes mature and dry skin. Jojoba helps to
heal inflamed skin conditions such as psoriasis or any form of dermatitis, helps
control acne and oily scalps. Since it has antioxidant properties, it can keep
other oils from going rancid. We use it here to help the Sea buckthorn and
Borage healing oils move deeper into the skin which they won't normally do on
their own. We use the natural yellow variety. Costs about $50 a gallon.
Meadowfoam Seed Oil:
Meadowfoam oil is used here due to its stability, lubricity and ability to stay
on the skin. Meadowfoam Seed Oil's skin feel is distinct from many other natural
oils. This is due to the novel chemistry of its fatty acids, which contain more
carbon atoms than fatty acids common in most edible oils. As a result,
Meadowfoam Seed oil provides good emolliency without being overly greasy. $100 a
gallon.
Pomegranate
Seed Oil. At almost $200 a gallon, it
takes a lot of pomegranates to make a gallon of oil.
This is a lovely oil, that has so many unique
characteristics. It is also high in lipids,
including Pucinic Acid (very rare), which helps heal
inflammation and reduce swelling. It has been found
to nourish and moisturize the skin, improving
elasticity, reducing wrinkles and preventing aging.
It has also been shown to help sunburned and
ultraviolet damaged skin. Evidence suggests that
its calming and healing properties may aid treatment
of numerous skin problems, including dry, irritated
sensitive skin, and perhaps even eczema and
psoriasis.
Sea Buckthorn oil
derived from the fruit: with 30-40% palmitic acid, 22-33% palmitoleic acid, and
1-6% of unsaponifiable ingredients such as carotenoids, alkanols, tocopherols
and sterols. This oil is the ultimate antioxidant for healing. It is a
rich source of carotenoids, flavonoids, tocopherols and vitamins E & C. The
fruit is high in EFA and other rare lipids, amino acids and a vitamin C
concentration higher than that found in oranges or kiwi. At about $1000 a
gallon, it is one of the most expensive botanicals. You won't find this oil
in many products. And if you do it will be in such tiny amounts as to be
insignificant. The percentage we use is pretty high.
Borage Oil: Borage
seed oil is clear and slightly thick with very little odor. It contains an
abundance of gamma linoleic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid that the body
uses to manufacture prostaglandins––hormone like substances that balance and
regulate cellular activity. It reduces the aging process of the skin and
reverses damage from ultraviolet rays. This oil is used to treat PMS,
endometriosis, and menopausal discomforts, as well as for psoriasis and eczema.
We believe for a lip balm this is a perfect use. Borage seed oil costs over $200
a gallon.
Squalane, Olive
Oil. Pure vegetable sourced. There are many who tell us this is as important to
this formulation as the Borage and Sea Buckthorn. Squalane is a special
formulation that sinks rapidly into the skin and heals all sorts of skin
problems. Originally developed from the liver of a special type of shark. The
all vegetable form we use is as effective. And this also costs well over $200 a
gallon.
Tangerine Oil: a nice
simple smell
Orchid Extract.
One few the few
extracts we use. This one actually does something
and is not watered down. Orchid extract is an
infusion of Cymbidium Grandiflorum Flower orchids
into fractionated coconut oil. Orchids have long
been used for reparative and protective properties,
moisturizing, fighting free radicals, and reducing
the appearance of fine lines. High end skin care
products use wonderful botanicals like orchids
because of their superior profile, rich in minerals
and moisturizing compounds. A gallon costs about
$200.
We also include a free FULL SIZE
bar of our Natural soap. A $5.00
value.
This Natural soap has to be tried to be believed.
It is nothing short of wonderful.

| GREEN STATEMENT
Since it is so
important to talk about being green now, in the past we have
always avoided mentioning what we do in this arena. Seemed like
bragging to me.
As you can
imagine, we use a lot of very hot water. Not only for
production, but also for cleaning our stainless steel equipment,
since we don't use any dangerous cleaning compounds. We have a
solar hot water system to heat our water.
This is free hot water! We're in Florida. The sun shines all the
time. It's a no-brainer.
I mentioned we
don't use any dangerous cleaning compounds to clean our
equipment. We use our natural soaps and high pressure very high
temperature water to insure no bacteria remains. This is very
important. Many companies use dangerous cleansers. Which not
only pollute the water runoff, but remain on the equipment,
poisoning the next batch of products they make. We only make our
products in our equipment. We do not farm out our production
facilities to companies who use inferior or animal derived
ingredients. I know this may seem like a small issue, but the
artificial soaps and other poisons as cleansers seem to have a
life of their own. They are extremely difficult to remove. They
are not allowed in the production area. EVER!
We use recycled
peanuts and foam for shipping.
We use
Florescent light bulbs everywhere. Again this can save a good
bit of energy over the years.
All equipment is
stainless steel (including valves). Bronze and brass typically
reacts to ingredients and can infect the finished products with
corrosion. Stainless steel doesn't. But it is expensive.
Our one flat
rate $8.00 shipping charge encourages buyers to group their
purchases, therefore saving on energy used to get your order to
you. We often lose on the postage and eat the handling costs.
We haven't gone
PV yet. The costs are such that I believe it's still a few years
away. I am excited about the new technology in this area that is
coming fast. When it does make sense for us we will do it.
We recycle and
limit our water usage. I have an eagle eye for saving energy
(and that is money), so we can keep our products affordable.
