Detailed item info
Synopsis
Dickens's last novel, THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, was left unfinished when he died in June 1870. Set in an English cathedral town, it tells the potentially sordid tale of an opium addict, John Jasper; Rosa Bud, the woman he loves; Edwin Drood, who disappears during a Christmas Eve storm; and Dick Datchery, the detective in charge of the case, who is obviously not what he seems. Although many endings to the tangled story have been proposed--this one among them--Dickens's intentions are unknown.

Publisher's Note
World-famous sleuths--Lew Archer, Father Brown, Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and others--deliberate on Charles Dickens' last and never completed novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood. As each chapter is studied, the mystery grows more mysterious.

Industry reviews
"The suave tones of the two Italian authors (who write as a team) communicate the interest and excitement of current ideas about Dickens' novel which, in this playfully scholarly setting, comes over as a work of pure enjoyment. And, as befits such a thoroughly postmodern exercise, there is the bonus of a new and highly original theory as to the death of the author."
