Where do all these seemingly endless throngs of young teenpop hopefuls come from? In the case of Krystal Harris, the answer is Indiana, via the sharp pop sense of the Backstreet Boys, through whose good offices a record deal was secured for Harris. Despite the album title, Harris is no brooding balladeer a la Fiona Apple or (anyone remember) Tori Amos. Far from it; the driving, upbeat tunes on ME & MY PIANO have more in common with Harris's aforementioned benefactors, as chirping pop hooks are doled out in equal measure with polite hip-hop beats and R&B keyboards. While Harris does manage to get a few good licks in on the piano, it's her wide-ranging voice that's the focus of most of these tunes. The opening track, "Supergirl," is full of percolating pop melodies and radio-friendly cheeriness, and that feeling of sunny, summertime party music is maintained throughout most of the album, with the occasional detour through that well-trod pop road, the wrong side of love.
