Selling here is a 7 volume set of the 'Œuvres de Monsieur de Montesquieu,' printed in Amsterdam. The first 5 volumes dated 1790, Volumes 6 & 7 dated 1788.   Text in French.

The contents meet collation: cxvii, [9], 308; [4], xvi, 274, xvi; [4], viii, 329, ix-xvi; [4], viii, 446; [4], 336; vii, [1], 304; [2], iv, 246 pp with 1 plate in vol 5. 

Small 8vo, uniformly bound in contemporary quarter calf over speckled paper covered boards, with brown titlelabels gilt, gilt numbering, 5 raised bands to spines.  Page edges speckled blue.

Condition: The books measure 9cm by 14cm. The bindings are holding firmly and in good condition, the hinges to all vols rubbed, the lower board to vol iv working a little loose. Surfaces a little soiled, spine ends chipped, other edges and extremities with some minor rubbing and scuffing. The textblocks to all volumes are holding firmly and in good condition, the pages generally crisp and clean, if a little toned and dustsoiled. Some leaves from pp. 217-240 are evenly stained blue, plus marginal loss to pp. 241/2. of the same volume. Some corners creased or turned, with some scattered marks from handling throughout all vols. Old owners ink inscriptions dated 1886, 1916 & 1946 to ffe of first volume.   Period plain endpapers.
