I bought this walking stick for my 82 year old mother who refuses to use a "cane". Although the item is pretty cool and I would use it in a flash when hiking or even walking through our ravine, I also trust it to hold her 110 pound frame if she needed it to avoid falling. The joints are fairly stong as is the light. She does like the built in light, and the wonderful maroon color. The only "cane" she is willing to go out with. We needed to be able to pack a hiking pole. This one collapses to 21 inches and will fit nicely in our suitcases. I've not yet used it for walking/hiking but my dad uses it as a cane and he loves it. Mark Denver First of all let me say that Im 79 years old and consider myself 21 so I wasnt happy when my kids suggested that I get a cane. They bought me a regular cane at first but I refused to go outside with it. Then then got me the maroon version of the adjustable lighted cane but I was still hesitent at first. When I finally did venture out with it I didnt feel old at all. The color is really nice and its very lightweight.
