Early Days in Kansas by Bliss Isely. Hardbound book, worn on all edges, especially spine, covers firmly attached, but no visible writing on spine and only about 1/2 of the spine is covered with the cloth. Interior pages - a number of them have some tears - but no pieces or pages are missing, and even when a page is torn, the entire page is still attached. Book was published by The Wichita Eagle Press of Wichita, Kansas in 1927 and was used as a schoolbook. Book plate inside the front cover says it was the property of School District of Franklin county, then below that says purchased from Kansas State Reading Circle of Topeka Kansas.
Excellent history of Kansas written in a personal form, following a particular character through different activities starting 400 years ago, introducing the White Men, Missionaries, wild horses, Spanish Flag, Keel Boat, Santa Fe Trail, Gold Hunters, homes in Kansas, border ruffians, bogus laws, Branson in trouble, Old John Brown, Quantrill, Kansas becomes a state, Kansas University, Buffalo Bill, Satanta, Medicine Lodge, Prairie Fire, Indians Build Wichita, Chisholm Trail, The Iron Horse, Texas Cattle, Nannie stops the smallpox, The Covered Wagon, the sod house, Stolen by Indians, the hunt for Stone Calf, TheSunfloweer, The meadowlark, and finally a pronouncing vocabulary.
Book is approx 5" x 7-3/4", 152 pages.
