OUTSTANDING MID-CENTURY / WPA PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG MAN

Offered is a vintage portrait of a seated young man wearing a purple shirt against a green background.  The painting, which was made in New York ca. 1945-1959, is unsigned and exhibits the stylistic influences of mid-century American Expressionism or the WPA (Works Progress Administration).  Painted in oil on stretched canvas, the portrait includes an original, custom-made wood frame.  Although the frame is fairly crude, it fits the painting beautifully. The work is also in excellent condition:  the tones are bright yet unobtrusive, and there is no cracking, fading or paint-loss to the surface.  The canvas is in pristine condition with no holes or tears.  Although the piece is unsigned, the modeling, color application and execution show that the artist was accomplished and possibly trained.  A wonderful period portrait that would look great in any mid-century, Hollywood Regency, or sophisticated designer space.  Dimensions:  approx. 19.25" x 25" (including frame).
