NATIVE ROOTS

HOW THE INDIANS ENRICHED AMERICA

by

Jack Weatherford

Ballantine Books

Jack Weatherford was the author of Indian Givers where he "revealed how the cultural, social, and political practices of the American Indians transformed the world.  Now in Native Roots, Weatherford focuses on the vital role that Indian civilizations have played in the making of the United States."

"Conventional American history holds that the white settlers of the New World re-created the societies they had known in England, France, and Spain.  But, as Weatherford so brilliantly shows, Europeans in fact grafted their civilization onto the deep and nourishing roots of Native American customs and beliefs.  Beneath the glass-and-steel skyscrapers of contemporary Manhattan lies an Indian fur-trading post.  Behind the tactics of modern guerrilla warfare are the lightning-fast maneuvers of the Plains Indians.  Our place names, our farming and hunting techniques, our crafts, the very blood that flows in our veins - all derive from American Indians in ways that we consistently fail to see.  In Weatherford's words, "Without understanding Native Americans, we will never know who we are today in America"."

This book is in good condition.   There is some yellowing to the pages and dust marks consistant with age on the top edges of the pages.  I've tried to describe the book as accurately as possible so please look at the photos as they form part of the description.

I am selling my personal library/research books that I no longer need or use, I am not doing it as a business,  rather so that all the resources I have can be of benefit to others (as they have been to me).   If I can sell them and recoup some of their cost - well that is a bonus, especially when I'm looking at retirement and know the money will come in useful.  Have a look at my other sales, or email me if you are looking for anything specific to do with Aboriginal History, Art or Culture.

 Thank you for looking
