Synopsis
This classic coming-of-age story, set in a Welsh valley before the turn of the 20th century, includes a large cast of characters but views the events mainly through the eyes of young Huw Morgan. The romantic relationships of a large extended family are juxtaposed with the early stirrings of the trades union movement in Britain, as the miners conflict with the owners, sometimes with disastrous consequences. The focus, however, remains with Huw on his bittersweet journey toward adulthood and the responsibilities and pleasures it contains.
