Nashville neophyte Alecia Elliott lists her influences from a selection of mod sources ranging from Jewel to Shania Twain, but the most telling is the one wily veteran on her list, Bonnie Raitt. During a decades-spanning career Raitt straddled genres, producing a pop sound that can appeal to fans of country, blues, and rock. On her debut I'M DIGGIN' IT, Alecia's heart is clearly in the country of her forefathers, but that country is seeped in a little bit of rock, folk and blues and in a lot of the Orlando pop sound.
The title track is the perfect example of the Bonnie in Alecia, aggressive radio-ready material packing an insidiously hummable hook, not to mention some able guitar work. There are ample riff-based country-pop tunes to go around on I'M DIGGIN' IT, from the sunny "Ain't No Ordinary Love" to the reflective "Say You Will." Alecia even gets to show off her vocal range on the straight pop ballad (written by Brent Bourgeois and Christian pop legend-in-the-making Michael W. Smith) "Some Say I'm Running."
