Item Description:
This is a gorgeous antique English solid oak buffet sideboard. It has a beautiful top surface with a very nice finish and it has a beveled edge and a lovely backsplash that has scroll carvings. There are 2 smooth operating drawers with dovetail joinery that have traditional facings with distinguished fancy brass pulls. The front of the buffet is adorned with additional scroll carved designs and features 2 cabinets that have 2 shelves, 1 removable, and a *cellarette holder. It has beautiful doors with raised decorative frames and fancy carved designs on the center. They have lock mechanisms but only one door seems to work. In addition it has gorgeous carved baluster legs with block feet and an H stretcher. This piece may show minor age appropriate signs of wear and imperfections but as shown it is overall in very good cosmetic and structural condition and it is strong and sturdy. From the elegant design to quality build this piece of furniture will bring many years of convenience and pleasure to your home.

*CELLARETTE (i.e. little cellar), strictly that portion of a sideboard which is used for holding bottles and decanters, so called from a cellar (which in general may be any underground unlighted apartment) being commonly used for keeping wine. Sometimes it is a drawer, divided into compartments lined with zinc, and sometimes a cupboard, but still an integral part of the sideboard. In the latter part of the 18th century, when the sideboard was in process of evolution from a side-table with drawers into the large and important piece of furniture which it eventually became, the cellaret was a detached receptacle. It was most commonly of mahogany or rosewood, many-sided or even octagonal, and occasionally oval, bound with broad bands of brass and lined with zinc partitions to hold the ice for cooling wine. Sometimes a tap was fixed in the lower part for drawing off the water from the melted ice. Cellarets were usually placed under the sideboard, and were, as a rule, handsome and well proportioned; but as the artistic impulse which created the great 18th-century English school of furniture died away, their form grew debased, and under the influence of the English Empire fashion, which drew its inspiration from a bastard classicism, they assumed the shape of sarcophagi incongruously mounted with lions heads and claw-feet. Hepplewhite called them gardes du yin ; they are now nearly always known as wine-coolers.

What is patina? If an object is described as having a fine patina it's usually meant as a compliment. If something is said to lack patina, it usually means the object lacks character. Patina is everything that happens to an object over the course of time. The nick in the leg of a table, a scratch on a table top, the loss of moisture in the paint, the crackling of a finish or a glaze in ceramics, the gentle wear patterns on the edge of a plate. All these things add up to create a softer look, subtle color changes, a unique character that has value. Patina is built from all the effects, natural and man-made, that create a true antique.

Sold in As-Is Condition: Please keep in mind that this piece is an antique or later period piece and is sold in 'as-is' condition. Buyers of antiques know that the character of old furniture is often exhibited in the unique way it shows its age. We try to fully describe each piece in an attempt to let you know exactly what you will be receiving. To further clarify each item, we include detailed and close-up photos that frequently exaggerate wear and tear in a way that is not representative of how the item will appear under typical casual observation in your home or office. Close-up photos often cause the finish color to appear lighter or surface imperfections to appear larger or more severe than when the item is viewed directly. The primary image is most often the best representation of color and overall appearance. We carefully select each item for quality and value with our customer in mind. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to email us. Any minor or major wear that has been mentioned has already been taken into account and factored into the price. Buy with confidence at our extremely low starting price.

Thank you for your business!
We appreciate the opportunity to serve our valued customers and want them to know that customer service is our top priority here at MBW Furniture. In order to deliver fragile furniture and antiques to our customers in excellent condition and without damage, we have implemented strict quality control measures and have utilized only the best methods in packing and crating to ensure safe arrival of your order to your destination.

MBW Quality control and Packing:
It is important for our customers to realize that most items we sell are extremely fragile and require extra care in packing and handling, especially antiques, bars and handcrafted furniture. Such items require boxes and wooden crates to be custom made only by packers with years of packing and crating experience. Such custom crates also need added protection and padding on the inside with top quality packing materials. Simply put, we do not and will not compromise the quality of our packing and for this reason; our shipping and handling costs might be slightly higher than sellers selling similar items. We feel it is important for our customers to realize that professional packing is not cheap and we do not want to take any chances with your hard earned money.

We appreciate the opportunity and welcome any feedback you can give that will help us improve your buying experience with us.

Remember, we offer a 5% discount to repeat buyers and sincerely appreciate your business and faith in MBW Furniture.
