Personnel: Jeannie Seely (vocals). "Don't Touch Me" was Jeannie Seely's first hit, and a major one at that; it spent months on the country charts, hovering for three weeks at number two and crossing over to the pop chart before winning a Grammy Award. All told, Seely had eight hits on Monument between 1966-1968, although only two cracked the Top Ten. Greatest Hits on Monument compiles all of her hits for the label plus a half-dozen album tracks (nearly all of which were written by Hank Cochran) and provides an excellent and inexpensive survey of her early years. Although "How Is He," her last hit from this period, is a pure pop ballad, her other recordings are more identifiably country in style, but distinctly pop-oriented. Her recorded output in general was heavy on ballads, and the mid-tempo hits "Wanderin' Man" and "Welcome Home to Nothing" provide a welcome change of pace in the context of an album-length set. ~ Greg Adams
